The
Systems Engineering Institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University (SEI)
was founded in 1979, and is one of the first education and research
institutes in its kind in China. Since then its research achievements
and Ph.D. programs have been ranked number one nationwide in
the Ph.D. program evaluations by the State Education Commission.
SEI offers MS, Ph.D. and post doctoral research programs. Currently
there are 24 staff members including 11 professors and 7 associate
professors, and more than 100 graduate students, of which more
than 50% are Ph.D. candidates.The faculty of SEI offers over
20 MS and Ph.D. courses and have published many textbooks selected
into the prestigious national textbook series.
The main research activities of SEI are in modeling, analysis,
control, optimization and simulation of engineering and social-economical
systems. It has undertaken many research projects including
the "863" high-tech project and those supported by
the National Natural Science Foundation, and many ministries
and provinces. SEI has close ties with many industrial enterprises
and provided them with many advanced methodologies and tools
used in their production. The members of SEI have won many international
and national awards and prizes for their excellence in research.
SEI has international collaboration and joint research programs
with many educational and research institutions in France, Germany,
Korea, Japan, Singapore, UK, USA, etc.
SEI is closely associated with the State Key Laboratory for
Manufacturing Systems Engineering (SKLMSE) which covers systems
engineering and mechanical engineering two majors, and devotes
to the development of computer integrated manufacturing and
other advanced manufacturing technologies in China. The SEI
lab, equipped with 7 HP715 Workstations with electronic CAD
(Mentor), Simulation (Simfactory), CASE(STP), Data Base (Oracle
and Ingress), MATLAB and other large software packages; over
40 PCs; HP Engineering plotter, etc., is a part of SKLMSE. Most
of SEI faculty also belongs to SKLMSE.
